Description

This course will introduce leadership in creativity and innovation through a structured, staged approach—starting from understanding and discovering personal creativity to learning how to use creative problem-solving (CPS) tools, viewing challenges from a creative perspective, and practising and promoting creativity within their organisation. Participants will learn to appreciate creativity and how it can motivate both themselves and others to achieve personal and group effectiveness.

In the second stage, they will be introduced to creative problem-solving tools and learn how to apply them in various scenarios and situations through group activities and presentations. By the end of the workshop, participants will reaffirm their personal creativity and make a commitment to practise creative thinking and leadership in innovation in both their work and personal lives.

Course Details

The participants will learn:

  • To understand and appreciate the importance of creativity and innovation
  • To understand how the creative part of the brain can be stimulated
  • To identify obstacles to creative thinking and idea generation
  • Discover personal creativity and learn how to ignite our imagination
  • To learn creative approaches in analyzing problems and challenges at work
  • To understand creative problem solving (CPS) tools and how to use them
  • To practice the application of the CPS tools in given scenarios and situations
  • To learn design thinking and use of mind maps to generate ideas
  • To consolidate principles learnt and to set a personal quota for creativity

Course Outline

Day 1

  • Defining and explaining creativity (How it can be applied in any industry)
  • Physiology of the brain and characteristics of the creative mind
  • Personal creativity audit (questionnaire)
  • Types of Thinking, Left brain and Right brain (Activities included)
  • Total Thinking –employing both left and right brain for maximum success
  • Group activity – Requiring application of left and right brain thinking
  • Self affirmation exercise – Recollection of personal efforts/success at creativity
  • Group activity – Creativity and Innovation to be applied in resolving a problem
  • How to pump our minds and feed our brain to generate creativity
  • Breaking the routine in order to promote creative ideas
  • Personal obstacles to creativity and innovation

Day 2

  • Factors that affect creativity – personal and environmental factors
  • The 4 step approach to creative problem solving ie. Preparation, Incubation, Inspiration and Verification (Group activity)
  • Case studies –presented by trainer followed by discussion
  • 3 Main phases to Creative Problem Solving ie. Problem evaluation, Idea generation and Realization
  • The ‘Why’ approach to problem evaluation (followed by group application exercise)
  • The 5ws and 1H approach to problem evaluation (Who, what, when, where, why, how)
  • The SCAMPER approach to idea generation – (Group activity, application exercise)
  • An introduction to design thinking and idea generation
  • Mind mapping –an alternative approach to idea generation(group activity)
  • Setting a personal quota for creative ideas
