Course Details

This is a 12-month part-time programme, covering 8 modules with a total of 288 contact hours.

The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Classes are usually held three times a week. Weekend block classes may be available subject to adequate student enrolment. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.

Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. All students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 75% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.

Course Outline

DB101 Principles of Management

  • Managers in modern business today are facing increasingly competitive and uncertain environments. This module aims to introduce students to the management function, and will focus on planning, organising, leading, and controlling an organisation effectively.
DB102 Understanding Business and Economic Environment
  • This module provides students with an introduction to business and economic concepts and models, and to help them understand how microeconomic and macroeconomic issues can have implications on the business decisions of a firm.
DB103 Business Statistics
  • This module provides students with an introduction to the concepts, methods, and applications of descriptive and inferential statistics. The objectives are to help students understand various business situations in which a range of statistical techniques are applicable, to develop skills in presenting, summarising and processing sample data, making basic statistical inferences and arriving at appropriate business decisions.
DB104 Principles of Marketing
  • The module aims to equip students with a good knowledge of the fundamental concepts of contemporary marketing and their practical applications.
DB105 Financial and Managerial Accounting
  • This module introduces students to the basic financial accounting (preparing, interpreting and analysing of financial statements) and management accounting (use of accounting information for planning and control, decision making, and the costing of organisational activities). Students will acquire knowledge on how financial and managerial information is used by decision-makers in organisations.
DB106 Business Law
  • The aim of this module is to equip students with a functional familiarity of the legal environment in which business decisions are made. It was designed to give students the knowledge they need regarding the basis of business law, so as to enable them to make legal and ethical decisions.
DDM201 Introduction to Digital Marketing
  • *Students must successfully complete DB100, DB101, DB102, DB103, DB104, DB105 and DB106 as pre-requisite before taking on DDM201 Introduction to Digital Marketing, DDM204 Advanced Topics in Digital Marketing and DDM200 Integrated Learning modules.
  • This module provides students with the necessary knowledge on the use of digital marketing media and tools to plan and manage an effective digital marketing campaign.
DDM204 Advanced Topics in Digital Marketing
  • *Students must successfully complete DB100, DB101, DB102, DB103, DB104, DB105 and DB106 as pre-requisite before taking on DDM201 Introduction to Digital Marketing, DDM204 Advanced Topics in Digital Marketing and DDM200 Integrated Learning modules.
  • This module focuses on advanced topics in digital marketing, namely social media marketing, mobile marketing and search engine marketing.

Entry Requirements

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must possess any one of the following of the equivalent recognised qualification:

  • 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credits with at least 3 years of working experience
  • MIS Training Centre / MIS Business School graduates who attained the Certificate in Sales and Marketing (CSM) / Certificate in Retailing (CR)
  • Mature candidate of 30 years old with at least 8 years of work experience, or
  • Candidates with other qualifications can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

*Minimum age requirement: 16 years old

English Requirements
  • At least IELTS 5.5, or
  • A pass in GCE ‘O’ Level English, or
  • Its equivalent (Applicants may be subjected to a written and/or oral assessment of their language proficiency conducted by the PEI).
  • Candidates with other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
